Lush Cosmetics & their 9 to 5 Cleanser

A Little Bit About Lush:
Lush Cosmetics is a brand that has never exactly attracted me. I generally don’t like being told what to do in any form (cause I’m a brat), so I stay away from the organic and vegan trends just based on that fact. Additionally, I enjoy strong ingredients in my skincare products so I can “feel” it working, and Lush is 100% all natural. No chemicals! Crazy.
Recently, a girlfriend of mine just needed to go into Lush to get more face wash, and I was converted. Here’s the thing: Lush is all natural ingredients from fresh, organic fruit and vegetables made by hand with little to no preservatives. All those eco-friendly, feathers in their hair kind of folk are automatic fans.
I was turned on mainly because the sales lady was a sweetheart, and really seemed to love the products in more than a loves-commission kind of way Props to her. She cleansed my hand with a couple of different cleansers, but I was very intrigued by the 9 to 5 Facial Cleanser.
Product Review:
I’ve been getting more and more into the whole night-time cleanser thing, and 9 to 5 was recommended as a gentle cleanser and make-up remover. Originally I was washing my face with it, and it left an awkward filmy feeling all over my face. I went online to see what other 9 to 5 users had said about it, and turns out it is best used when removed with a wet cotton ball or wash cloth.
Since Carrie Underwood told me to wear 4 mascaras at a time, I’ve been needing more than just my regular vaseline (especially in the humid summer). 9 to 5 was the answer to this — literally the best makeup remover I’ve ever used. After massaging the cleanser gently, and wiping it off with a wet cotton pad, literally 100% of my makeup was gone.
The biggest issue with Lush is, ironically, the best part about it: products are so fresh that they expire in as little as 2 weeks. 9 to 5 has a three month shelf life, which is fine, but even with daily use it isn’t enough to get your money’s worth. Stupidly, I bought my 9 to 5 on July 10th, and it expired July 17th. Epic fail. So make sure to check the expiration dates before you purchase!
Now, add in the awkward factor: they really want you to know just how handmade the product is, so on every item is a cartoon version of the employee who made it. This person follows you home and watches you while you wash your face/remove your makeup/etc. Not gunna lie… it was terrifying.
Overall: A great cleanser that works perfectly, but doesn’t last long enough.
